When a tree falls, does it make a noise?

After the first platter, I was hooked. So I went out and bought a used lathe and got to work. We had a sycamore tree leaning over the house that was cut down. This became a ready source of raw materials.

The top two were turned green, and have a wax finish.

The bottom one was dried for about a year, then turned. It has a walnut oil finish.

I avoided it for a long time

My boss turns, and offered to teach me. I thought turning would be addictive, and dodged his invitations for a long time. When I finally went and tried it, I was hooked. This is my first attempt, a simple platter about 6 inches across. This is spalted maple, with a tung oil and wax finish.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. This is starting out as a an experiment, and to give me a place to put photos of my bowls.
